Guilt

You can feel guilty if you feel like you have let someone down by doing something wrong. Maybe you did something to make someone like you or because everyone else was doing it.

It is always a good idea to think about the consequences of something before you do it, especially if you are unsure whether it is the right thing to do or not.

Sometimes someone can make you feel guilty even though you feel like you did nothing wrong.   You should always let someone know if you are being blamed in the wrong.

If you know you have done something wrong it is good to put your hand up and say, “I did it and I am sorry”.   It is a lot better than going around feeling guilty about it.   The fact that you had the courage to admit what you did is fantastic.

If you hide your feelings of guilt you may start to feel shame.   This emotion can cause you to feel like you are not good enough and can cause you to have low self-esteem.   It is good to let feelings of guilt go if you have done something wrong and have said sorry for what you did. There is no point thinking about it all the time because then you are living in the past.

You can always change the words and say something like this.

Even though I feel so embarrassed for what I have done I am a great kid.

I allow myself to let the feelings of guilt that I have go.

Holding on to guilty feelings is not good for me.

I have said I am sorry and I have learned my lesson.

I am a great kid and I belong.
