Embarrassment

Have you ever felt like you wanted the ground to open up and swallow you becuawe you felt so embarrassed by something you did?   This happens to most people at some stage and it is nothing to be ashamed of.   When you allow the embarrassing feeling to be released from your body you will be able to look at what happened in a very different way.   You may even be able to see the funny side of it!!

It is normal to feel embarrassed when you say something and everybody laughs at you. It can make you feel like you never want to speak up again.   This is why it is very important to deal with the embarrassment you feel as soon as you can.

A handy trick is to imagine the words that you said being inside a bubble. So then you imagine that when people laughed they were laughing at what was inside the bubble and not at you.

Sometimes people can say something about you in front of others that makes you feel embarrassed.   They might say something about some part of your body or the clothes that you wear.   They may be trying to fit in with the “cool guys or girls”.   Remember not to take what they say to be true.

If you miss a penalty at a football game and you are embarrassed about this realise that most of the best football players in the world have missed penalties at some stage too.   Don’t let it stop you being the best you can be.   You are great the way you are and you can try and do better next time. Don’t ever give up.

You can learn how to do something called tapping. Take a look at the picture of the teddy and the picture of the alien.   See which one you prefer.   They are showing you where you can “tap”.

You can go here and see Conal using tapping to get rid of his fear of getting sick in the car!!!

You can always change the words and say something like this.

Even though I feel so embarrassed I am a great kid.

Even though I wish the ground would open and swallow me up, I am a great kid.

I don’t like it when people laugh at me.

I want to feel accepted.

I realise I said the wrong thing but I know that I am a great kid.

I choose to see the funny side of what I said.

I belong.

I and am a great kid.

Happy tapping!
